The Philosophy of Flow
What Flow Is Built On
Flow Counselling and Consulting Service operates from a philosophical basis of systemic counselling which has developed over the years. I select from a variety of theories and techniques to help clients, whatever their issues may be. When working with couples, each person learns to engage with their partner in a productive way.
Flow’s philosophy, Taking Time to Experience and Reflect, is based on the idea that the client will use storytelling to develop a useful strategy for dealing with their issues. The aim of the flow process is to take people from the effects of trauma into a productive and positive future life.
Flow is the Psychology of Taking Time to Experience & Reflect
Narrative Therapy
In my counselling session, I take the time to experience and reflect back to my clients and I also encourage my clients to develop their own life stories and reflect on them. Narrative therapists help clients to deconstruct their life stories and when working with migrant people, I adapt this narrative style so it becomes culturally relevant for them.
I have a multitude of experience, I am a clinical and counselling psychologist who provides a psychologist service addressing clinical, health, psychosocial and culturally relevant services. I am also involved in conducting couple and family session, cross-cultural training, and consultancy in program and group work development.
The Nine Components of Flow
Clear goals
Immediate feedback
A balance between challenges and skills
Merging action and awareness
Distracts are excluded from consciousness
There is no fear of failure
Self-consciousness disappears
The sense of time becomes distorted
The activity because autotelic, an end in itself
Double Happiness
In Chinese culture, Double Happiness symbolizes love, marriage, and harmony.
Double Happiness can be seen in some marriages and festivals like the Chinese New Year. In addition to using a dragon, they also have a phoenix. The pair represents harmony between two equal but different beings. This translates to relationships. I work with all clients to ensure they reach a place of harmony and belonging, no matter their cultural and spiritual backgrounds. When I talk about people being equal, it must be seen throughout their lives.
